History
Knaus is named after the painter Knut Knaus, which accounted for much of the interior decoration of Samfundet. Behind the black walls there are beautiful wall paintings that Knut has painted. The unique barrel ceiling is almost the only example that exists of its kind in Norway (there is one other). It should also be said that the roof helps the room get some really cool acoustics.
For 20 years, Knaus was the place where the best of the new Norwegian music was presented. In 1987,the, then unknown, Dum Dum Boys came on stage at Knaus, and now they are one of the most important bands in the Norwegian rock history. During the first half of the 2000s, Knaus has been a springboard for bands like Mystery , El Caco , Sissy Wish, The Lionheart Brothers superfamily .
Earlier glorious bands like Lis Is Silent , Grand Island, Ida Maria, and Norwegian-English The Wombats visited the scene. The latter had their breakthrough with the single Let's Dance To Joy Divison
winter 2007.
Also Kråkesølv, Ingeborg Selnes, Jack Dalton, Provisioning Audio and St. Helen's are bands that has created a good atmosphere among the students in Trondheim. It is also worth mentioning that Pony The Pirate had one of their first gigs at Knaus, and was then named ' Untouched 2008.
Visit Knaus, expand your music horizons and experience the wonderful energy of the explosive bands and pristine jewels.
