Duvel

The band that got banned from both Spotify and Apple Music

May 25th 2018 Duvel released their debut album ‘Attempts at speech’ through the norwegian record-label Fysisk format. Duvel sound different to most bands these days, as the album revels in a raw, unpolished sound. Big, distorted guitars, driving and melodic bass-lines, and front-man Jack Holldorff’s haunting vocals. All held together by the banging, crashing and sometimes slightly awkward drums.

The album was recorded at the autonomous youth community house ‘Blitz’ in Oslo, produced and engineered by Bjørn Larsen. All twelve songs on the album were written and recorded by Zacharias Flaathe(bass), Brage Lindebrekke(drums) and Jack Holldorff(guitar/vocals). The stories in Holldorff’s lyrics definitely plays out in a rather dark place, but this does not stop the band from delivering thrilling, high energy shows.

Scene Point Blank - “The album works in island-like ways. It sails between warmly familiar songs like ‘Sacred Place’ and ‘Birds’, and a formless anxiety of chaotic reverberations. The bass occupies the mature stability of the music, allowing the guitars to echo its naïve otherworldliness in a duality of musical juxtaposition. Moreover, their solid bass-drum combo, pushing and pulling the listener like ocean currents, ties us together, like a ship floating dangerous waters."

Indie Voice Blog - “These are not the kind of songs you hear on commercial radio, but they are the kind that demonstrate that this band has to have a dynamic stage show to contain all that energy. If you love punk and/or high energy rock, then you should definitely check them out.”

Idioteq - “‘Strange’ shows a well-written jam encapsulating all your favorite parts of fuzzy, shoegazin’ post punk, and fuse them into a one hell of a track.”
