Samfundsmøte: Fake news

How do we distinguish facts, lies, and opinions? Together with ISFiT-23: Polarization, we highlight the theme of Fake News.

Propaganda is not a new phenomenon, but the time we live in right now is quite unique. Never before has so much information (and disinformation) been so readily available. How do we know what information to trust? Together with ISFiT23: Polarization (The International Student Festival in Trondheim), we want to highlight the theme of "Fake News".

How can we find together in a world where the distance between us is growing and where we can’t agree on what information counts as facts, lies, or opinions? How can people with access to only one news source decipher what is true and what is false?

Be it Russian propaganda, the election in Brazil, or anti-vaccination; It’s evident fake news is affecting society, and that’s why we have to talk about it!

The guest that will join us are:
Torkjell Leira, Leira is a Human Geographer, one of Norway’s leading experts on Brazil and author of the book To kill a democracy: The Story of Bolsonaro’s Brazil. Leira is also the founder of the website: “Brasilleira.no”

Snorre Valen, Valen is the editor of Trønderdebatt and has been newly appointed the leader of “Kringkastningsrådet”. Valen is also a former member of parliament and deputy chairman for “SV” (Socialist Left Party).
