ISFiT: Alienation through the lens of young Norwegian directors
A short film event for film lovers. The event will explore the theme of alienation through three short films by three young norwegian directors. The question we ask is: What does it mean to be alienated? There are many answers to this question, and this event shines a light on and discusses this issue through the eyes of the three directors Barbora Hollan, Brwa Vahabpour and Julian Tepfers. This digital event will show one short from film from each of the directors, followed by interviews with each director. They will talk about their productions, the life of a young director in the Norwegian film industry og what alienation is to them and is shown in their work.
The movies and directors:
SILENCE by Brwa Vahabpour
Brwa is already an award-winning director who won best fiction film at the Boston Short Film Festival in 2019 for his graduation film from the film academy, "The Shepherd". The film shown for this event, Silence, won the Film Association's professional award for best cutting during the Short Film Festival in 2020. Brwa has studied at Nordland Art and Film School and left the directing line at the film school in Lillehammer in 2018. Brwa's other films have a unique and sensitive register that depicts environments we do not see very often on Norwegian screens. His film "Silence" comes from a personal story, and the joy of storytelling radiates through the screen.
THE ART OF THE HANDSHAKE by Julian Tepfers:
Julian Tepfers is a 22-year-old filmmaker who has never attended film school, simply because he never got into one. "But neither did several of my heroes and inspirations," he said to himself. And with that, he started making films. He started with and has stayed within his favorite genre, horror. It has been incredibly fun, and he also wanted to include some of that fun in the films. The line between horror and comedy became the one he liked best to balance on, and it is this mix of genres that formed the basis of the film "The Crisis or Handshake It Off". A little scary, a little funny. Hopefully!
LØVETANNMAMMA by Barbora Hollan:
Barbora is a photographer and filmmaker. She moved to Norway from the Czech Republic at the age of five. After studying art photography at the Academy of Art, Architecture, and Design in Prague, she traveled the world alone with a kayak and photo camera. She photographed in places like Nepal, Chile, and Peru, and has been to several places where she had to overcome language barriers to get in touch with the people around her. In 2014, she made her debut at the Autumn Exhibition at the age of 25. "I want to explore the narrative style of the documentary, and combine it with a subtle poetic visual style," says Barbora. The film Løvtannen won the Don Quixote Award, Krakow Film Festival, and was on several competition programs, such as Bergen International Film Festival, The Norwegian Documentary Film Festival, Short Film Festival in Grimstad, Krakow Film Festival.
