ISFIT: CRACKING THE NORWEGIAN CODE WITH JULIEN BOURRELLE
Julien Bourrelle is an author, rocket scientist and a public speaker that interests particularly in Norwegian cultural habits.
How do you know whether you can approach someone on the bus, or ask a classmate “how did you do on your exam” if you are visiting Norway for the first time? Maybe Julien Bourelle can give you some answers in his seminar “Cracking the norwegian code”. Bourrelle grew up in Canada and travelled abroad to study astronautical engineering. Along the way he acquired 4 new languages and discovered pinpointing facts about cultural differences in the countries he visited. When he arrived in Norway he described this experience as “one of the most challenging ones”, and this inspired him to write an illustrated book called “The social guidebook to Norway”. He has also held TEDtalks such as “How culture drives behaviours”, and is now coming to ISFIT to talk further about how we act differently in social situations depending on our “cultural glasses”. Julien recognises cultural behaviour in a humorous and engaging way, and believes that if people have a greater understanding of each other, this could lead to better communication and generate more knowledge all around the world.
Events at the Student Society can be adapted for visitors with movement and hearing impairment. See here for more information.
