Samfundsmøte: China
We hear a lot about the rise of China in the media. It is the most populated country in the world, and has for the last decades become an economic superpower. It’s a large, fascinating and intimidating country, but there is still a lot most of us don’t know about China. Will the 21st century be China’s century?
Should we be afraid of Chinese surveillance? What about the lack of democratic and human rights? Will Trump’s America and China be able to cooperate? What happens if Xi Jinping refuses to let go of his power - will he be another Mao?
To try to answer these questions, we will be joined by Marc Lanteigne and Paul Midford. Lanteigne has authored or edited four books on China and several articles, and is currently employed at UiT as an Associate Professor. Paul Midford is professor at NTNU, and his research focuses on East Asian regional international politics and security.
