Should Samfundet throw a party with gun money?
On 19 February 2024, Storsalen voted through the following internal opinion:
"The Student Association in Trondhjem, assembled for a community meeting on 03/02/2024, decides that the Student Association in Trondhjem, UKA and other affiliated organizations shall avoid cooperation with companies engaged in the production of weapons or the sale of weapons." (Translated)
The proposal has been made by members Astri Elgethun, Liva Rindom Tofte, Inga Diserud, Sebastian Småland, Anna Vindenes, Katja Brødholt and Truls Carlson on behalf of Styret.
Internal expressions of opinion set guidelines for how Samfundet internal operations should take place. In line with the fact that this expression of opinion is political, Finansstyret has also commented on the consequences this proposal may have on Samfundets finances. They emphasize that Samfundet is in a difficult financial situation due to Nybygg. Rådet was also asked to comment on this opinion to present how they would interpret this. Storsalen voted through the opinion with 188 in favor (53.9%), 144 against (41.3%), 17 blanks (4.9%).
