ISFiT presents: Sarabi
Sarabi is coming to ISFiT and Klubben at Samfundet the 18th of February.
Sarabis music concept is unique with roots from traditional East African rhythms such as Benga and Afro Beat, fused with Rock and Reggae. Their performances are packed with energy and their lyrics are full of important messages. Social injustice is a fighting cause for the group, something you recognize though their lyrics. One of their most known singles, «Fuata Sheria» (Repect the law), sums up some of the massive corruption scandals Kenya has seen over the last 50 years. Though an engaging melody, the song tells a story of a society deeply scarred by injustice, where even their best efforts to form functioning tribunals fail.
Sarabis social engagements extend to helping out in the many ghettos you find in Nairobi. The group have started a mentorship project that involves educating the many children of the ghettos, or as the group themselves call it, «The Humble Kingdom».
ISFiT 2017 presents Sarabi in Klubben at Studentersamfundet in Trondheim, on the 18th of February 2017, at 10pm. This is set up to be a magical night where electric rhythms will be served alongside important and topical lyrics, inspired by social injustice.
Events at the Student Society can be adapted for visitors with movement and hearing impairment. See here for more information.
