Excenter evening: Big Data
Professor Harald Martens from NTNU comes to us to talk about Big Data. How should one use the current and future enormous amount of data - in science, in business and in society? NTNU will now get a new professorship in Big Data Cybernetics. What do they want with it?
Because of Big Data we have to think afresh - but WHAT do we have to think afresh, and HOW? Should one for example use Big Data to develop autonomous system - i.e. systems which take critical decisions, without the involvement of humans? To get even more intelligent trafic lights? Even funnier festival drones? Selfcontrolled cars, trains and planes? Autonomous surgery robots? Autonomous programs in the State’s Educational Loan Fund for evaluation grant applications? Autonomois judging-algorithms for judging in rape-litigations? Autonomous missiles? Much of will be good, but should we do it all? Is it safe enough? Which values are strengthened by this?
Or should we be more reluctant to disconnet human judgment and accountability? Should we insist on keeping humans in the ‘loop’ as far as possible?
Events at the Student Society can be adapted for visitors with movement and hearing impairment. See here for more information.
