Sundayscreening: Dune (1984)
Lynch - “I’m proud of everything except Dune”
Based on the iconic sci-fi universe of Frank Herbert, this story is probably well known to many. Due to the success of the new blockbuster films, it is likely that many of you are already familiar with this universe. But this film is a different version of the story.
Created by the visionary director David Lynch, known for works such as Blue Velvet, Eraserhead, and Twin Peaks, this film is considered the black sheep of his repertoire. He has even stated that he is "proud of everything except Dune" and that he refuses to watch the film himself.
But now, 40 years after its release, and with the franchise experiencing a revival in the public consciousness, could it be that people were wrong? Could it be that the film was simply misunderstood?
Come to the Storsalen on March 2nd and decide for yourself whether Dune is over-edited nonsense or a misunderstood masterpiece.
