Kvinneaften
Two important and thought-provoking lectures— a deep dive into gender, power, and society! Explore revenge, anger, and female voices in film with Margrethe Bruun Vaage, and gain new perspectives on feminism beyond rights with Oda Davanger.
18:30-19:15
Women, Revenge, and Anger in Film
Margrethe Bruun Vaage presents her research on female avengers in film and her new book The Female Avenger: Women’s Anger and Rape-Revenge Film and Television. The book focuses on recent rape-revenge films made by female directors. Vaage argues that we must explore the many functions of anger to understand these films.
Vaage is an associate professor of film studies at NTNU. She is a film theorist specializing in audience engagement with fictional films and television series.
19:15-20:00
Feminism Beyond Rights
In a society like ours, where state feminism has secured strong rights for women, one could argue that feminism has achieved its goal. A liberal feminist might say that rights address sexism and that the solution is to legislate equality. In this lecture, Oda Davanger will examine sexist expressions that are difficult for laws and rights to address and discuss what this means for the future of feminism.
Oda Davanger is a PhD candidate in philosophy at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at NTNU, where she has also taught introductory philosophy. She holds a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Oslo and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the US. She is writing a dissertation on democracy and the existential impacts of sexism and racism.
The lectures will be in Norwegian.
