ISFiT presents: Veslemøy Narvesen // Bakke kirke
Veslemøy Narvesen has quickly become one of the most active young voices on the Norwegian music scene today. As a versatile drummer, Veslemøy can be heard with bands such as Mall Girl, Schemes, Dafnie, and Benjamin Gisli Trio, as well as in collaboration with musicians like Mette Rasmussen, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, Anja Lauvdal, and British ECM artist Kit Downes. This spring, we’ll get to experience Veslemøy Narvesen’s musical universe in a stripped-down format – with Narvesen on piano/vocals/electronics, Anna Ueland on synth/vocals, and Håkon Brunborg on violin.
With a wide-ranging genre expression, Veslemøy Narvesen creates music that challenges and moves with fearlessness. Her sonic world draws inspiration from a range of musical extremes, from Nordic piano trio jazz to singer/songwriter in dialect. The music unfolds as a unique and diverse contribution to the Norwegian jazz scene, with its sophisticated mix of pop and improvisation.
In 2020, Narvesen was awarded the Oslo Jazz Festival Talent Prize and debuted with her first project of original music the following year. Her debut album We Don’t Imagine Anymore was released on October 13, 2023, via Jazzland Recordings and received a warm reception; Aftenposten named it one of the best Norwegian albums of the year, and Audun Vinger called it “Autumn’s finest Norwegian album” in Dagens Næringsliv.
NRK Lindmo also picked up on the buzz and featured Veslemøy and her band in connection with the album release. Soon after, they embarked on an extensive tour with sold-out concerts and a packed summer festival schedule.
