pride film: But I'm a Cheerleader 🌈
A naive teenager is sent to a conversion camp when her strictly conservative parents and friends suspect that she is a lesbian.
“But I'm a Cheerleader” is a satirical comedy that follows Megan, a typical American teenage girl and cheerleader, who is sent to a conversion camp to "cure" her supposed interest in girls. Her conservative parents and friends, convinced that she’s a lesbian due to her vegetarianism and lack of interest in boys, stage an intervention. At the camp, run by the strict Mary Brown, Megan meets other teenagers in similar situations. Through the camp's absurd and over-the-top therapies, Megan begins to question her own identity and eventually realizes that she is, in fact, a lesbian. The film explores themes such as sexual identity, conformity, and homophobia with a humorous and critical tone, while depicting Megan’s journey towards self-acceptance and love.
