Onsdagsdebatt: Norske våpen på avveie?

How appropriate is it for NTNU to collaborate with the defense industry and weapons companies?

This event will be held in Norwegian.

With this debate, we aim to shed light on Norway's weapons production and export. Specifically, we want to discuss NTNU's collaboration with weapons manufacturers such as the Kongsberg Group, in light of the recent demonstrations that have taken place on campus.

In the debate, we want to address questions such as: How can we be sure that weapon parts produced in Norway are not used in violations of international law and the killing of civilians? Why should NTNU students trust companies that are accused of not taking responsibility for where their weapon parts end up? At the same time, can we demand that Norwegian companies account for the arms export policies of other countries, such as the USA? Who is ultimately responsible for where weapons end up and how they are used? And isn't it, after all, good that Norway has a robust and independent weapons production—both in terms of national security and ensuring that the precision of weapons is further developed to prevent civilian casualties?

Joining us on the panel are:
Tor Grande, Rector at NTNU
Susanne Therese Hansen, Researcher II at Studio Apertura
Marte Hansen Haugan, Leder i Changemaker
Bassam Hussein, Professor og Merittert underviser ved NTNU
Ronny Lie, Kongsberg Chief Communication Officer & Group Vice President

Doors open at 18:45, and the event will be held in Skala. The event is free.
