The Sideways // Knaus på Klubben
The Sideways are as indie as it gets these days, and firm believers to the credo in doing everything themselves and having their own record label, Wonderful and Strange Records. Like their debut album, the follow up is also recorded for the most part in Brygga Studio in Trondheim.
Hailing from industry capitals in the fjords of middle Norway, The Sideways are coming forth
with their own crucible of catchy and melodic indie rock. Growing up face down in their
parents’ and siblings’ record collections as well as having keen ears for own discoveries, they
have let their sound bear influences from 60s pop and psychedelia as well as 70s power pop,
new wave, as well as shoegaze and slacker indie.
As a band with an obvious affection for a retro sound, their resolute determination to carry
around a metric tonne of vintage backline to even the smallest of Norwegian club venues
have in the past years manifested the band as a hard working live act. With their debut album
deemed “the most exciting band in Norway” by music blog brethren The Wilhelmsens, The
Sideways are now coming forth with their follow up album.
The band still operates from jangly powerpop filled with catchy hooks to gloomy post-rock
crescendos. Since their debut effort, the band have refined their sound, and are sounding
more vital and focused than ever. The album is out on September 13th on their own label,
Wonderful & Strange Records — a subsidiary under the legendary Brygga Studio’s own
imprint.
