ISFiT: Labour Migration - The road to integration or polarisation? // Litteraturhuset
What are the economic, political and social impacts of labour migration?
What are the impacts of labour migration on labour markets around the world? According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), there are approximately 150 million labour migrants in the world today. This number has broad economic consequences, but the impact is bigger than numbers and income. With the movement of people follows the movement of cultures and norms, along with an increased pressure on existing labour markets. Does the competition for jobs undermine integration, or do open labour markets successful integration and flourishing economies?
The focus of this plenary session will be the economic, political and social impacts of labour migration. To cover these topics, we have invited Martin Ruhs, who is currently at the European University Institute in Florence, as well as Associate Professor of Political Economy at Oxford University and Fabiola Mieres, representing the International Labour Organization. Also joining us are journalist and author David Goodhart, as well as professor in sociology and political science Johan Fredrik Rye, with Morten Langfeldt Dahlback as moderator.
Events at the Student Society can be adapted for visitors with movement and hearing impairment. See here for more information.
